Dear past, thanks for all the lessons.

We too had a beginning to our fitness journey, we've had struggles, frustrations and emotional battles. So we know how it feels to be at the starting point. But as well as those moments we've also had epic wins, endless high-fives and countless times when we made ourselves feel proud

That's whats important; the paths you take to make a change, all those lessons you learn that in the end, make a damn lot of difference.

I was a bit of a chunky monkey when I was younger, team that with also being the tallest in my class and you could say I didn't have the best time at school. Experiencing that in my childhood made a big impact on my relationship with food, and throughout my teenage years I did myself no favours.

But hey, the past is the past and everyone has bad experiences in their life. What I did take from it was the ability to really appreciate myself, after years of feeling low I began to pick myself up. I treated my body as it should be treated; I worked it hard, fed it more and gave it the respect it needed. This resulted in a body that I am proud of and one which every day puts a smile on my face.

What made me succeed above all else was the support I gave to myself. Self-worth is the most important and powerful tool you can have. Without it, the effects of good nutrition and exercise is more likely to fail, you've got to have an awesome mindset.

This is something that I knew I could instil in other people, in all of you. Long story short, I met Sam and we not only shared a future together but also the same vision. A few years later New Age Active appeared, and hell are we excited about it!

When I was a kid I was chubby, lazy and un-educated about anything healthy (I did play Rugby though!) but in my teens I treated my body like a fast food restaurant with a brewery out back. I realised I needed to make a change to look and feel the way I wanted to. I thought the best thing to do was to join a gym.

Unfortunately, I went on to do the typical ‘only look good in a t-shirt workouts’ at university; overtraining arms and neglecting my legs until I looked like an upside-down triangle supported by two cocktail sticks. The reason for this is I always lacked the motivation to do the hard graft it takes to build a good body. I hated training legs, so I just didn’t do it.

In time I realised that to truly make a change, you need to really throw yourself all in.

I changed my mind set and challenged myself and it definitely paid off. I can look in the mirror and be proud of what I have achieved (except those goddamn calves).

I've had a bit of turbulent fitness journey and it took me a fair while to realise what I was doing wrong. That's why I wanted to help others achieve their goals through the knowledge I have and avoid making the same mistakes I did.

That's when I met Megan (who's awesome by the way) and New Age Active was born!
